The Chevrolet Motor Company was born in 1911 when Louis Chevrolet partnered with William C. Durant. The first notable models produced were the 1914 Royal Mail roadster and the Baby Grand touring car.
The two founders went their separate ways and Durant specialized in vehicles for the everyday driver whereas Chevrolet focused on luxury. Durant purchased General Motors (GM) stock and assumed the title of GM president in 1917 and Chevrolet was merged into GM as its own division.
GM debuted its first electric vehicle in 1996 – the EV1. It was the first mass-produced electric car of the modern era. But the EV1 was impractical and not cost-effective. It was quickly scrapped, and GM worked towards one of the most talked about cars in America – the Chevy Volt.
The Volt acted as a transition towards the Chevy Bolt, which was produced in 2016 as the brand’s first long-range all-electric vehicle. Affordable and compact, the Bolt is powered by an electric motor paired with a 65-kWh that delivers 200 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 259 miles on a single charge.
The Chevy Bolt has a tempting starting price, a spacious interior – despite being a small car – and a decent driving range. A solid all-rounder, a used Chevrolet Bolt is a good car to buy.
