If you’re after a small SUV crossover, the Jeep Compass is a viable option. But buying a new one is a major financial commitment with high monthly payments when financing. So why not consider a used Jeep Compass instead?
A used car is much cheaper than a brand-new one, and depending on the condition, it may just be like new. Even if you’re considering a model over five years old, you can find a reliable product at a great price.
This is where Echo Park Automobile comes in. Buyers can find tested used cars from well-known and trustworthy brands like Jeep. Let’s explore the Jeep Compass and see why it may be a good choice for you.
The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV that falls between the Renegade and Cherokee in the Jeep lineup in terms of size. It was released in 2007 and is currently in its second generation. It has a powerful 2.0-liter engine and a front-wheel or 4x4 drivetrain (the latter is now standard).
While it has the off-road capabilities that the Jeep brand is known for, the Compass is also a commuter-friendly vehicle. So it’s best suited for individuals and families who drive mostly on urban or suburban roads but also go for outdoor adventures from time to time.
It has four trims: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. The Jeep Compass Sport is the entry-level trim and the cheapest. All models have eight-speed automatic transmission.
The second-generation Jeep Compass replaced the Jeep Patriot and is a major improvement in design, with clean lines and several color options. The interior has also improved with a larger touchscreen, leatherette seats, and a digital display.
Jeep Compass features can vary based on the trim and included packages. However, some key features are found across trims and many model years.
Since 2017, all Jeep Compass trims have featured the UConnect infotainment system. This system uses a touchscreen interface to control audio, navigation (optional on some trims), phone calls, and more. It also integrates with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for quick and easy smartphone connectivity. Plus, the more recent models have a larger screen, which only improves the UConnect experience.
All Jeep Compass 4x4 systems deliver great traction and allow the vehicle to handle rough terrains. However, the Trailhawk trim is the one to go for if you want a truly off-road Jeep. All-terrain tires are standard on this trim. Plus, the ground clearance is ample to avoid any obstacles on the path. However, the towing capacity is 2,000 pounds, which is less than what you’d get with Cherokee.
HSA is a standard feature on the Jeep Compass, and you’ll truly appreciate it if you often drive on slopes. The purpose of this feature is to make it easier to start going uphill. When activated, it keeps the brakes on for a few seconds once you move your foot from the brake pedal to the gas pedal. This way there’s no rollback when starting the car on steep slopes.
The Jeep Compass engine is the same across trims, so you get the same engine power no matter which one you choose. The 2.0-liter (2.4-liter on earlier models) turbocharged engine can provide over 200 horsepower.
As you can probably guess by the car’s specs, the Jeep Compass is not the most fuel-efficient vehicle. However, its fuel economy improves on the highway significantly. For instance, the 2020 Jeep Compass has an EPA highway fuel economy of 30–32 mpg (miles per gallon), compared to 22–23 mpg for city driving. The company has been working on that, and some of the latest models have increased fuel economy.
The Jeep Compass offers various safety features, many of which are standard. These include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.
Over the years, Jeep has embraced the latest technologies in driver assistance systems and incorporated sensors and cameras to improve safety on the road.
Jeep Compass cars may not be suitable if you're on a tight budget. However, there are plenty of alternatives from other brands in the same SUV class:
A used Jeep Compass automatic car can be great for anyone looking for a rugged, compact SUV with reliable safety features. But if you’re more interested in off-road capabilities, go for the Trailhawk trim. Other trims can deal with occasional rough terrain, but you will need the tires and advanced features of the Trailhawk to take on very rocky ground.
You can search for a used Jeep Compass on Echo Park's website. You can even take a Jeep Compass for a test drive and see a detailed report online.
